DEAR HUMANITIES KIDS,
IF YOU MISSED CLASS, my young friends, you failed to submit your first CER. YOU HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS ASSIGNMENT FOR 7 WEEKS. You are welcome to submit it with your coupon on MONDAY, but you will only receive half credit. OWN THIS.....

1. We completed the god chart.
2. I showed images of the gods, and the students practiced identifying them for Journal #6.
3. Students were given a new assignment in relationship to art that has a mythological motif.  Each student received a piece of artwork that relates to the god that they researched earlier. Students will have time to work on this assignment on MONDAY and WEDNESDAY next week during class. The assignment is due on FRIDAY, October 26th and will go on next term.

4. For those of you that missed the Greek names, Roman names, Symbols and Domains I have included this information for you below.

Athena, Minerva, owl/breast plate/olive tree/spear/helmet, Wisdom and Strategy
Hephaestus, Vulcan, fire/hammer/anvil/tongs/ god of invention and creativity
Aphrodite, Venus, Doves/Roses/ sign of three/goddess of love and sex
Ares, Mars,skull/ helmet/dogs/sword/spear/shield,god of war and carnage
Hermes/Mercury/winged hat, winged shoes and caduceus/ messenger, commerce and takes the dead to the underworld.

Homework: 

1. Test covering Greek Gods on MONDAY! You will see pictures of the Greek gods, and I will ask that you identify the god via their symbols.  You will need to identify the Greek, Roman, one symbol not shown, and two domains if the god has more than one.

2. Remember that your journal entries are due on MONDAY.

3. Create Flashcards for the gods. You can use a 1/4 of the number that you create on the quiz.

Dear Humanities Kids,

STOP MISSING CLASS, cute kids! WHY WOULD YOU MISS CLASS on a TEST DAY? WHY? I am not available during Flex to make-up your quest, because I have a prior commitment to the Mythology students. I also don't have time to visit with you after school. STOP MISSING CLASS!

1. Students were given a new assignment involving the Greek gods. Each student had the name of a god attached to their desk. This god is important for your research assignment.

JULIO....You have Hephaestus
TANIA....You have Hades
LUPITA......You have Apollo

Each student was given some information regarding their assigned god. That information is to be read, annotated/notated, 5-7/pg/ ALL COLORS. In addition, students were asked to locate an additional internet or textual source that details information about their god. PLEASE do not use WIKIPEDIA as a reliable source. A valid internet source is encyclopediamythica.com. Your additional source needs to be a minimum of a page in length. Please annotate/notate/ 5-7/ ALL YOUR COLORS. BOTH SETS of annotations are due on TUESDAY.

2. Students took their "Quest" regarding Greek culture, and then we corrected them together. Overall, everyone did quite well.   

I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday. We will begin with the Greek pantheon on Tuesday. DON'T MISS CLASS?

If you missed class, we completed the following:

1. We reviewed the three different forms of Greek architecture and the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic forms of art concerning Greek sculpture.


2. Two vocabulary words were introduced to you Polytheism and Paganism. Please visit with someone in class, regarding the definitions for both.
HOMEWORK:
1 Start reviewing for your "quest" covering the introductory information concerning Greece. The "quest" will take place on MONDAY!

Dear Humanities Kids,

If you missed class today, we completed the following:

1. Journal #6 "Review for the Mycenean and Athenian cultures"
              1. What animal was most significant to the Myceneans? What does this indicate about their culture?
              2. What type of individual lived in Athens? Support your points with a specific example.
              3. Explain why Athens was given its name.
              4. Why was dance required of each Athenian citizen?
              5. Explain the term "city-state."

2. We had fun learning the "plate dance.' 
3. We continued learning about Olympia, Sparta, and Macedonia.

1. Please read pages  21-44  in your text regarding the Greek gods. Including only ORANGE points. Please have three annotations/notations for each god. THIS IS DUE ON FRIDAY.
2. Students were given EXAM #1 back. If you would like to revise your exam, then 10 points will be added to your initial score. The revision is due on TUESDAY.
3. CER #1 is due on October 18th

Let's review, shall we.....The Minoan and Mycenaean Cultures

#1. Journal #5 (PART 1): Minoan and Mycenaean Cultures

Let's review regarding the Minoan culture........

1. We know that the Minoans were highly advanced. Include three aspects regarding their society which indicate this.

2. How do we know so much about the Minoan culture, especially when we haven't been able to decipher their writing.

3. Explain the connection between the "bull jumping ceremony" and the myth regarding "Theseus and the Minotaur."

4. How did the Minoan culture feel about women. Justify your response.

5. Explain the connection to Plato's "Atlantis" and the Minoan culture.

6. What caused the decline of the Minoan culture.

1. We continued with our discussion of the important Greek civilization. We reviewed the Minoans by completing the above entry, and then we moved on to Mycenae, Olympia and Athens. If you missed class, PLEASE obtain this information from someone else in class.

HOMEWORK:
1. Please read pages 3-14 in your book.
2. Notate, using all your colors, 5-7 points for each page concerning the introductory information about Greece. Due on Wednesday, Oct. 3rd.

Dear Humanities Kids,

1. I returned your "Artist's Intent" essays. WELL DONE, my young friends! Students were instructed about the "revision" process. Each time you are given a writing assignment in Humanities, you will always be asked to revise your original paper. The revision IS AN ASSIGNMENT, and goes into the computer as 75 points. If you complete the revision, then 10 points will be added to your original score.

IF YOU DID NOT COMPLETE THE ORIGINAL ASSIGNMENT, "ARTIST'S INTENT," THEN YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE REVISION. UNLESS YOU WOULD LIKE TO USE YOUR HOMEWORK COUPON FOR THE ORIGINAL ASSIGNMENT.

2. We returned to your handout regarding ancient Greece, specifically our discussion of the earliest Greeks, the Minoans.

3. Students were then asked to refer to their annotations for today, while they viewed a video that detailed the ancient Minoans. 

Journal 5: "Points of Interests about Minoan Culture"

Please divide your entry in half vertically. On the left write "Movie" and on the right record "Reading." Please list the points of interest you found from the reading. Now as you view the video regarding Minoan culture, please list aspects that you found interesting as well. I look forward to visiting with you.
